Ayurvedic Oatmeal Recipe
- Organic Grass-Fed Ghee
- Cinnamon, black pepper, cloves and/or nutmeg (or Vata Spice for a savory and grounding taste)
- 1 cup organic old-fashioned rolled oats
- 3 cups water
- Himalayan Salt
- (Optional) Yoghurt and butter
Kapha needs to take in moderation. Excellent for both Pitta and Vata dosha. For kapha types, substitute buckwheat or quinoa and cook according to package instructions.
Place a teaspoon of ghee in a pan on low to moderate heat.
Add a quarter of a teaspoon of your chosen spices and the oatmeal to the ghee, and cook on low heat for 30 seconds.
Add a good pinch of Himalayan Salt, the water and slow boil for 5-10 minutes (check for desired consistency.
Turn the heat off and let it settle for 3 minutes or so with the lid on - a full fiber grain is thirsty.
Serve with a dollop of yoghurt and a spoonful of butter or ghee. Add pepper, salt and more spices to taste if desired. Incredibly satisfying!
Amazing with hot herbal coffee, and some organic coconut sugar sprinkled on top!
