Ayurvedic Recipe: Vata Balancing Smoothie
Autumn is a time of change, and adjusting to change can often cause our stress levels to rise. It is important to keep our body nourished during this time so that our immune system is able to function properly. The ingredients in the following recipe will help build "ojas" which is the ayurvedic word for nourishment. Try this unique and delicious smoothie, using organic pumpkin.
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (you can use organic whey or vegan protein)
1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
2 pitted dates
1 tablespoon flax seeds
1/2 cup canned organic pumpkin (or use freshly cooked and pureed - that gives best taste)
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon grated ginger
Pinch of cardamom
Pinch of nutmeg
1 teaspoon organic ghee or organic coconut oil
1 teaspoon Maca Powder (excellent for balancing Vata Dosha)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Balancing for all 3 doshas. For kapha, use more ginger, and eat occasionally only.
Place all ingredients in blender, and blend until smooth.
