A lot of people from outside the United States are looking to become permanent residents in America. Their reasons range from searching for greener pastures to expanding their businesses to America. While there are several immigrant programs available for them to try, people who have a large amount of money to invest can take advantage of the immigrant investor programs.

Immigrant investor programs are programs created for the purpose of attracting foreign investors into the United States. In exchange for a huge investment, the investor would be given a right of residence and citizenship. These programs are also called citizenship-by-investment programs or golden visa precisely because the investment would be the key to obtaining citizenship.

This was created mainly for advancing the economic welfare and development of the country. With the required huge investments, these programs create thousands of employment opportunities and a lot of economic growth for the country. In addition, it offers secondary benefits such as enhancing and enriching cultural diversity and attracting innovative and useful business ideas from all over the world.

For example, the U.S. EB-5 Program was created by Congress in October 1992 as a way to stimulate the economy and create more jobs. It requires a minimum capital investment of five hundred thousand dollars to a million. The program ensures that the investment will be used in the promotion of economic growth, creation of jobs, and increasing regional productivity.

Due to good programs like this, more and more people from other countries, such as in Europe and Asia, have become permanent residents in the United States and experienced the American culture. In fact, more of them continue to come to take advantage of this opportunity. Those who have stayed here for a long period of time are beginning to adopt the American way of life, such as pop culture, entertainment, music, and, most especially, food.

Since food is one of the most unique elements in a culture, more and more cuisines have also entered the country. Some of the most popular dishes in the world that are now quite popular in the United States include wonton soup, fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, fish & chips, cinnamon rolls, Fondue, and Irish stew.

Since healthy lifestyles are a common thing nowadays, healthy dishes like the Portuguese kale and potato soup is a must-try. It is a good comfort food especially during cold weather conditions. It has a lot of green vegetables, potatoes, and a little bit of sausage.

If you are confused with all these options, you can try out this recipe for a hearty winter stew: Hungarian Goulash.

4 cups or 950ml homemade or store-bought low-sodium chicken stock
4 packets powdered, unflavored gelatin (1 ounce or 30g)
2 tablespoons or 30ml vegetable oil
3 pounds or 1.25kg whole boneless beef chuck roast, cut into 3 steaks
Kosher salt & freshly ground black pepper
4 medium carrots (10 ounces or 275g), 2 split lengthwise, 2 cut into bite-size pieces
2 small stalks celery (3 ounces or 85g)
1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced (10 ounces or 275g)
2 red bell peppers, thinly sliced (8 ounces or 225g)
4 cloves garlic, thin slices
1/2 cup sweet Hungarian paprika (about 2 ounces or 55g)
1 tablespoon or 15ml soy sauce
1 tablespoon or 15ml Asian fish sauce
2 bay leaves
4 sprigs thyme
2 tablespoons flour (about 3/4 ounce or 20g)
1 pound or 450g Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cubed
1 to 2 tablespoons or 15-30ml apple cider vinegar
Chopped, fresh parsley leaves (for serving)

Put some gelatin over chicken stock and set it aside for later. Put oven rack to a lower position and preheat the oven to 300°F. In the large Dutch oven, heat oil until it shimmers. Add salt and pepper all over the beef and add it to the Dutch oven. Turn the beef occasionally until both sides are browned. Do this for about 10 minutes. Put the beef on a rimmed baking sheet or large plate.

Add diced carrots to the Dutch oven and cook. Stir well for about 4 minutes until they're browned on all sides. Lower heat when necessary to prevent scorching. Add salt and pepper for taste and then put it on a bowl. Cook split carrot, onion, peppers, celery stalks, and garlic until they are soft and browned. Do this for about 8 minutes.

Add paprika, cook, and stir for about 30 seconds until it's fragrant. Add the chicken stock and gelatin mixture. Add the soy sauce, bay leaves, fish sauce, and thyme.

Slice the seared steaks into 1.5-2-inch chunks. Transfer them to a large bowl and toss with flour. Add beef and all the juices in the plate to the Dutch oven. Stir and simmer over medium heat. Transfer it to the oven, cover with partially open lid, and cook until beef becomes tender. Do this for about 1.5 hours. The liquid should remain at a slow and steady heat throughout. Adjust temperature of oven when necessary while cooking.

Take the stew out of the oven. Pick out and discard carrot, celery, thyme, and bay leaves using tongs. Add potatoes and sauteed carrots to stew. Return it to the oven and continue to cook (partially covered) until beef, potatoes, and carrots become tender and broth has thickened. Do this for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Remove any excess fat from the surface of the stew using a ladle.

Remove the stew from the oven. Place it over a burner and simmer for 15 minutes if necessary. Add 1-2 tablespoons of vinegar for taste. Season with salt and pepper if necessary. Serve it immediately with sprinkled parsley. You can also let it cool overnight or refrigerate and just reheat for serving.

Another interesting cuisine that has entered America is the Middle Eastern cuisine, specifically that of India. Plenty of households in India make use of ghee in making their food. Ghee is a clarified form of butter and is made by boiling butter up to a point where the milk solids are separated and removed. This means that ghee is much healthier than butter. In India, it is used as an alternative to cooking oil.

Because of globalization, the United States has now become a melting pot of cultures. It has become a place of convergence for different ways of life. Diversity has made American society and culture much richer – from its economy to its cuisine. This has been made possible by programs such as the EB-5 and other existing immigrant programs that seek to attract more people, as well as their businesses and cultures, to come to the United States.
