OUR HISTORY

Tasty Superfoods has been selling healthy and tasty products since 2005. Our goal is to offer world-class natural and organic products while leaving the smallest possible environmental footprint.

Over a decade ago we started selling organic and natural products locally, in the idyllic small town of Fairfield, Iowa. Fairfield is home to the Maharishi University of Management, which was founded in 1974 by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The Maharishi was a spiritual advisor to The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and tens of thousands of transcendental meditation teachers from the U.S and abroad. Today, the university attracts people from all over the world interested in deepening their spiritual practice and studying transcendental meditation, making the population of Fairfield very enlightened, socially engaged, and international.

Fairfield has been named one of the best small towns to visit in America by Smithsonian Magazine. It was also called “America’s most unusual town” by Oprah when she visited in 2012 to learn more about its unique residents and their dedication to meditating twice a day and promoting world peace.

Our business reflects the unique, progressive values of Fairfield, in part because our founder is a graduate of the Maharishi University of Management and an experienced practitioner of transcendental meditation. We only work with suppliers who share our beliefs about sustainability, humane treatment of animals, and working to create a more just world for all.

When we started the business, we focused on selling Ayurvedic products, such as our Dosha spice and tea mixes and our now-famous Ayurvedic Roast (caffeine-free herbal coffee with antioxidant boost), to local retailers.

Currently, our best-selling product is organic, grass-fed ghee (also known as clarified butter). Ghee was discovered centuries ago in India and is central to Ayurvedic medicine. It has become popular in the United States due to its many health benefits. Ghee is a zero-carb food that is packed with nutrients and can be eaten on a variety of low-carb diets, including paleo, Whole30, and keto.

As our knowledge about attaining optimal health through nutrition has expanded, we have branched out into other superfoods, supplements, and natural body care products. In order to reach a larger audience, we began selling our products online in 2010. We are always adding new products to our online store to give you a full line of health-promoting, tasty superfoods and effective body care items, such as our best selling all natural pain relief Elmore Oil.
